I’m Back!!!

Posted in beautiful, catching up, friends, happyness, Life, Me, memories, news, randomness, vacation time on 07/20/2010 by asante

Hey Blogfriends!

I know I’ve been quite the slacker lately, but as I alluded to in my last post, I had a meeeean vacation coming up. I got back yesterday, and honestly, I couldn’t describe how much fun I had if I tried. And believe me, I’ve tried lol. Every person who asks me keeps getting the same answer: ” It was…. fantastic.” That’s really all I can say about it. I got to spend 5 days in beautiful Miami, FL with my 3 best friends on earth. It could not have been a better trip if we had planned it down to the minute lol, it was so impromptu and rash that we all had a great time. So as usual when I can’t figure out how to describe things…. picture time!!! Check out a sampling of my photos from the trip.

Love you all, glad to be back :)

Apologies and Explanations and Catch-Up

Posted in catching up, F, FML, friends, Home, Life, Me, randomness, rant, ugh., vacation time on 07/09/2010 by asante

Tsk tsk tsk me. Bad blogger. lol

I manage to get all these new awesome fun readers and what do I do? Stop posting. lol. Sorry y’all, but my brain has effectively checked out, and I honestly haven’t been able to think of anything to write. So in an effort to make amends, here’s a definitive, visually-stimulating list of what has been occupying the space between my ears (since properly operating gray-matter is not exactly cutting it lately. lol. excuse the nerdyness.)

1. I’m going on vacation next week folks. And not a “visit people in other cities” type trip. I’m talking sun, sand, drinks, and nothing constructive expected of me other than deepening my skintone. And it’s pretty much consumed my thoughts. lol. I CANNOT wait, I really needed a legit break from life as I know it. *happy dance*

2. So as an aspiring academic, it significantly behooves me to be literarily productive. Unfortunately the snarky folks at a certain journal called “B_________P_________” (I probably shouldn’t publicly badmouth them… In case I need them in the future….) decided to reject my article submission. After a good rousing round of choice 4-letter words screamed within the confines of my apartment, I’ve done my best to get over it and start working on making it even more awesome than before. Take that, reviewers.

3. F and I had a minor-ish fight over the past few days, resulting from a few weeks of a veritable communication breakdown. Of course in any long term, long distance relationship, communication is essential, I think we both just needed a reminder about that. Thankfully all is well again, and things are back to normal. And he’s coming to visit soon!!! (Get your handsome self down here, ASAP, mister. lol. ♥ you :)

[Note: clearly the above picture is NOT me and F…. lol.]

4.

I’m movinnnnnn. Not any large move, jsut across town to a more affordable apartment. But it still requires the boxes and the trucks and the tape and the easily bribed male friends to pick up boxes and furniture and such. *sigh*. Maybe I should start packing… hrm…

Anyways, that is my lame attempt at a photographic explanation to why I haven’t written a significant blog post in almost a week. Here’s hoping I can continue riding the popularity wave from my “Freshly Pressed” post lol.

Anyways, I promise to re-insert my brain into my skull sometime between now aind July 20th. But most likely later than that. #whoops.

Later blogfriends!

OMG. so cute. lol. Happy 4th of July Weekend, y’all!

Wanted: Sun, Sand, and a drink w/ an Umbrella in it.

Folks, I need a vacation. BADLY. Want to know how badly?

  • I have found myself on several occasions lately walking past the windows on my floor and just looking outside. Just looking. Because I was inside and it made me sad.
  • I didn’t make it to work on Monday. Reasoning? Half traffic-induced frustration, Half “it’s too pretty outside today.”
  • Everytime I’ve gone out in the past few weeks, I’ve ordered drinks that either include Tequila, or are blatantly tropical and vacation-y, or both. (Mojitos, Sex-on-the-Beach, Daquiris, Margaritas)
  • I bought new overpriced swimsuit tops, even though my trip to Miami is more than a month away.
  • I have found a lame excuse to go and sit out by my pool at least twice a week in the past month, even if it was only briefly.
  • I keep having Miami flashbacks from last year’s Spring Break.
  • Seeing “#Summer” and “#Vacation” as trending topics on Twitter makes me INSANELY jealous. (There is no summer break in the real world, fyi.)

I need to be lying on sand somewhere with a strong drink in my hand, a swimsuit on, salt water nearby, and obnoxiously large sunglasses on. STAT.

July 15th, please hurry up. lol.

A stream of consciousness…

Hey y’all!

It’s been a few days and I was feeling the itch to post, even though there’s nothing in particular going on worth writing about…. lol. A wise person once told me that if you’re going to keep writing, make an effort to do it frequently and regularly, even if you have nothing to write about. I’m always a fan of good advice, so I’m taking it :)

So lets see, what’s new….. Ooh I made some “busstop friends”… lol. Really cool couple, Max and Cory. They live in my complex and ride the same bus as me every morning, and a few weeks ago we were commiserating about the awful cold weather down here and we kinda clicked. Definitely makes standing at the stop in 20-30 degree weather more enjoyable, and Max is hella funny lol. Yay for random friends :)

My friends and I are contemplating a trip to Mardi Gras…. lol I gotta say, I’m mildly nervous. Mardi Gras last year was INSANE, and I’m sure Saints Fever has kicked the celebration up a few thousand notches lol. People apparently got shot on Bourbon St. last weekend…. yikes. But it would be fun….. decisions decisions…
Reason #20893 that I moved South: Snowmageddon. 2 1/2 feet of snow across the Mid-Atlantic, with another 1 1/2-2 expected by the end of the day today. Yea, DMV, you’re mad…. lol. Poor things. At least you don’t have to go to work or school!!… Until March. lol. Enjoy that. (Sidenote: all that cold has still affected MY life in Atlanta…. can we hit 50 degrees again please? I SWEAR I saw a snowflake this morning. Unacceptable.)
Work is… work. lol. On the bright side though my actual patient interaction has been lower recently, so I’ve gotten to focus on things like finishing my paper and helping out with a few others and doing more data analysis. Gotta get that resume in check before the powers that be pull the GTP rug out from under me…. Stupid NIH. Never liked them. lol. And no it has nothing to do with the fact that they denied my job applications two years in a row. Nothing at all. How ya like me now hmmm???? I got publications out the wazooo lol. You wish I worked for you. Be Jealous, NIH. Be jealous.
New (ish) music that I’m obsessed with, Corinne Bailey Rae’s new album is GREAT. I’m so glad she’s back :) And I’m late on the bandwagon, but Sade’s back too?? 2010 is going to be a great year for music. (*fingers crossed*) If you haven’t heard “Soldier of Love” or “I’d Do It All Again” yet, you must. Must must must. Then throw some Melanie Fiona and The Noisettes in the mix (and  yes, I know the Noisettes aren’t new per se, but they’re new to me) aaaaaand you’re in business. *sigh* I really need a new Ipod…. But I have a long history of destroying them. Maybe I’ll just stick to Last.fm or Pandora lol.
Okie doke I think that does it for today’s brain drain lol. Nothing else I can think of… and I guess I should get back to work. Meh. Later!

Happy New Year!!!

Hey all,

So a week and a half of crazy family-ness has turned me into a neglectful blogger, but I figured while I’m recuperating from my 10 hour drive from DC, the least I could do was update my blog about my holidays.

Christmas: Well Christmas was freakin’ awesome :). I finally got to cook my meal, I threw DOWN on Christmas dinner all by myself (mostly) and let me say, it was a resounding success :) Check out my menu:

Turkey, Duck, and 2 Chickens (which were brined and marinaded overnight to juicy deliciousness)
Green Apple Stuffing
Green Bean Casserole
Pinto Beans
Macaroni and Cheese (Courtesy of F and his Mom)
Rice
Turkey Gravy
Cranberry Sauce
and for desert….
Bourbon Pecan Pie (again, Courtesy of F and his Mom)
and Cherry Cheese Cake

I’ll give you all a few seconds to stop drooling. lol. I’m a BEAST in the kitchen!!! Ask about me :)

After that, took a crazy but well-worth-it tourist-y day trip to NYC a few days before New Years, which was SOOO much fun. These two are definitely two of my favorite people on earth;

We saw just about every cliche’d Manhattan tourist spot we could–on foot. lol. Yes, we hoofed it from Battery Park to Rockefeller Center. 53-ish blocks. lol. Here’s what we saw:
The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island; Ground Zero; The Brooklyn Bridge, The Financial District: NYSE, Trinity Church, The Charging Bull; Chinatown; The Empire State Building; Times Square; aaaaand last but not least, Rockefeller Center (though it was waaaaaaaaaaay too cold to ice skate. lol).
Then we caught the subway back, which was… interesting…. waaaaay different from the DC metro lol. but it was an experience nonetheless.
Last up, New Years Eve. Hung out with some of my closest DMV peoples for a nice chill hotel shindig (although apparently I passed out around 2am… whoops. lol. a Lil Pong, some Andre, and good company made for a great, relaxing, and entertaining way to enter 2010. I can’t wait to see what this year will hold… see a few posts earlier for my 2010 New Years resolutions… I plan on doing my best to keep them, promise.
Let’s see, what else, what else….
1. Oooh my hair is growing!!! I did a few co-washes while I was home, stuck to my twist-outs (which are improving, I might add) and my hair definitely seems to be growing at ridiculously awesome rates.
2. Tiger had waaaaaaaaaaay too much fun @ my parent;s house lol… Can we say spoiled rotten? He seems to be readjusting pretty well though. Such a baby lol. And he got to see snow for the first time! He loved it, lol. especially once he got past the whole “Snow is cold and wet” thing lol.
3. I got to spend my Christmas holiday not only with #2 and #3 and my parents, but I got to spend the whole break with F(!!!!) and see my cousin Mrs. R. and her husband (!!!!) and my very prettiest cousin, M (lol). Bravo to this Winter Holiday all around :)
Aaaanyways, that’s enough for catch-up. I’ll post pictures of my holiday break soon!
Merry (Belated) ChristmaHanuKwanzaaNewyear to all!

New Years Resolutions….

Posted in Family, friends, hair, happyness, Me, The Holidays, vacation time on 12/11/2009 by asante

With 2 weeks or so and counting until 2010, it’s about time to come up with a list, don’t you think?

Yes, yes, I know how notoriously lame New Years Resolutions are lol, but who doesn’t love random silly traditions? And in the spirit of all around self-improvement, I think this year is a must. I did pretty well with last years resolutions (keeping this blog up, reading more, spending less time as a lump on my couch lol) so only onwards and upwards, I say! Ok here I go.

1. No More Micros. I’m ditching the braids after New Years next week, so I’ll be forced to interface directly with my own hair lol. Lets see how much I’m working with by the 6 Month mark… (April 24, 2010).

2. Finish Decorating my Apartment. I FINALLY got the bookshelves I’ve been lusting after…. Now I need curtains, a rug, a strategically placed plant, and at least 2 Lamps…. Even the place only starts to look home-y as I’m moving out, I WILL cram more furniture in there lol.

3. Be better with my $$$. I’m a notoriously impulsive shopper. Groceries, Clothes, Drinks, Shoes…. It really should stop. Any financially minded friends out there want to help out? We all know I can barely count. lol.

4. Work on Grad School Apps/GRE. Can’t forget the end-goal, after all: Must. Get. In. To. Grad School. Daddy Dearest already freaked when he heard I wasn’t planning on going back to school until  Fall 2011, gotta make sure I hit that mark or the poor man may lose it altogether lol.

5. Get better at keeping in touch.  Yeah, this one may be more difficult… *sigh* but I’m trying. I’m terrible, lol. Phonecalls are coming, I promise! And just because it’s been a while since you heard from me doesn’t mean I don’t love/miss you.

6. Get more…. *sigh* exercise. Thank GOD I have a dog lol, because otherwise this one would be a negative. I can commit to two long walks with Tiger though. I mean he’s just so cute. lol.

Alright blog friends, it’s up to y’all to keep me in line. After the clock strikes 00:00:00 on January 1, it’s on. Wish me luck…. :)
