I’m officially on the bandwagon. Willow Smith is  just so frickin’ adorable. Congrats to her on a fly song and a rocking video. I need braids in my life… ASAP. lol

One time for Sesame Street.

Seriously. I’m a fan from wayyyyy back, (Gawrsh has it really been 20 years since I was their target demographic?! O_O) so I’m glad that PBS is still putting out quality learning-ness for the kiddies to this day. (Get the heck on, Barney.  *side-eye* lol)

They did a clip featuring a monster with natural hair! (well, curly. but close enough lol). I thought this was the cutest thing ever, and I hope they keep this clip around in the future for my one-day napped-out babies to watch too lol.

Dear #naturalhair friends…

Disclaimer: I am NOT a “natural-hair-blogger”. This blog’s sole purpose is NOT to discuss natural hair, or any hair for that matter. I am nothing even closely resembling an expert. It is just a topic that is important to me, since I’m fairly new in the game. Just had to throw that out there, lol. Yes, I know I talk about hair too much. No, it will never stop. lol. Alright, here we go….

Hey y’all!

First off, I’ve put the fro away for a while….

I know a lot of folks get nervous about micros when it comes to breakage etc., but for my hair, honestly braid extensions can do no wrong. My hair really enjoys the break. Plus with the next 2 months of my life including both a beach vacation and moving to a new apartment…. I definitely have more pressing things to worry about than keeping the ‘fro looking presentable lol.

Secondly, even though I’ve only had natural hair for less than a year, I’ve noticed that my research-loving super-nerd status has worked in my favor  as far as what I’ve figured out about how my natural hair works. And in turn, I’ve had a few people actually asking ME for advice.

Wait, really, Me? Seriously?

*cue the Goofy bashful stance*…. Gawrsh. lol.

Anyways, it’s flattering :) Especially when I’m about 92.6% sure that I don’t have any idea what I’m doing. lol. So for the benefit of my dear friends who are looking to me for advice, I wanted to lay it all out for ya. 100%, my natural journey (so far) from start to present. (And for the benefit of those who do NOT care one little bit about my hair, or anybody else’s hair, the rest of my blabbering is below the cut lol.)

Hey y’all :)

So I tried my first protein treatment today, and I gotta say, the ‘fro LOVED it. lol.

My hair has been doing well, but lately I’ve noticed a little bit more shedding than normal, so I hit the net to find a solution. I’ve read time and time again about the whole “protein/moisture” balance, and when I was relaxed I know my hair responded well to protein treatments, but I just wasn’t sure. So today I bit the bullet, and decided to try out a Yogurt/Honey protein treatment, to see if I could reap any benefits.

I think it really helped! Here’s what I used: (and as always, I rarely measure accurately, I’m a big fan of just guessing lol.)

  • 1 cup (ish) of plain, nonfat yogurt
  • 1 large squeeze of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of my oil mix (equal amounts of jojoba, castor, sweet almond, and grapeseed oils)

Slapped all that goodness on the fro, and let it sit for about 45 mins-an hour. When I co-washed it out…. O_O my hair felt AWESOME lol. It felt strong and soft all at once, and thankfully not brittle or dry like some people warned (guess I’m not protein sensitive :)

After that, I followed up with a DC treatment, and since I’m all out of my SheaMoisture Deep Conditioning Mask, I mixed up something new…

  • Golfball sized glob of shea butter
  • about 1/3 cup of Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol
  • 1 tbsp of my oil mix
  • Large squirt of Tresemme Nourishing Moisture condish (basically I needed to finish the bottle lol.)

And that was a definite #win :) Rinsed it out, twisted up like always, using my leave-in spray mix and my newly mixed sheafrosting (my old shealoe mix, with an added squirt of the Tresemme for a smoother consistency.) The twists are slowly drying as I type, but they feel really good! My ends feel good, my hair feels nice and smooth, and hopefully over the next few days, I’ll notice more positive effects from the protein boost.  Me and the fro are happy :)

And I must be doing something right, because lately I’ve had a bunch of folks (friends and randoms) giving me compliments on my hair, and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside :) lol. It’s nice to see that in such an unbeweavable city like ATL, there are still a few people who appreciate someone letting it Fro. lol

Anyways, I’m off for a serious cuddle session with my doggy, hope you all are enjoying your weekends!

Hair Hair Hair…

So as the ‘fro approaches 7 months, I find I’m learning more and more about what makes her happy every day lol. Newest update to my routine is as follows:

-Co-Wash every 2-3 days with Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Condish and/or Aussie Moist Condish (I actually REALLY like how my hair turns out when I use both at once…. the ‘fro feels delish.)

-Spray with my leave-in mix (1/2 cup Tresemme, 2-3 tbsp of my grapeseed-sweet almond-jojoba-castor oil mix, one tbsp of aloe vera gel)

-Rub in a half-golfball sized glob of my shealoe mix (1/2 cup shea butter, 1/3 cup aloe vera gel, 2-3 tbsp of my oil mix)

-Twist while hair is still damp, and done!

-Henna and Shampoo (w/castile soap) once a month.
-Try to get my hair wet in the shower almost everyday, and using a few sprays of my leave-in mix for moisturizing.

Finally nailed down that sucka! and my hair is definitely reaping the benifits. My hair is def. getting thicker, slowly but surely! One of these days it’ll be some random girl stalking lusting after appreciating my hair (like I do with every natural haired girl I see lmao!)  The journey is progressing as it should :)

Oh and if you care, I started a Tumblr account to better keep track of my different styles and my progress. I’ll do my best to keep it current…. Link is on the right. ———————>
